Traci has a relaxed, almost empathetic approach to writing. She encourages you to tap into your emotions and the way they manifest in the body and translate it to your character. The concepts I have learnt are helping me revise my completed novel, hone my characters and bring out their innermost feelings and thoughts and to keep the tension of the plot tight so the readers can engage with the story. What I enjoyed most is the way the course didn't enforce structure and process, which allowed the creative and emotional aspects to emerge in my writing. I have no hesitation in recommending Traci’s course on embodied writing!

The reading material and suggestions were invaluable and continue to be as I keep working to put my pieces together. I was exposed to writers I hadn't yet experienced, and looking at work in a new way. I know I will return to the reading recommendations and workshop replays again and again. My view on my work has shifted, my productivity is more consistent and dare I say I am enjoying the process now more than ever! I don't think I could have made this shift without Traci's support and I look forward to continuing to work with her.

I see a huge difference when I look back at my first pieces compared to my current work, and I know that the growth I have experienced as a writer would not have been possible without Traci’s genuine interest and gentle coaching. Traci Skuce’s Intensive motivated me to pull my manuscript out of the drawer, blow the dust off and get busy on revision. The micro-feedback sessions were particularly helpful. This intensive was an amazing experience! Traci showed us how to excavate the hearts of our stories and put them on display. My favourite elements of the course were the microfeedback sessions, deep reading videos (I'd never scrutinized stories to that degree), and meditations. There is magic to Traci’s course. I’ve learned so much just in the identity of being a writer, let alone the process of writing and having words on a page. Also, it has been so supportive and empowering to connect with other writers. I didn’t realize that before Traci’s course. The people that are drawn to her are passionate, kind and wonderful writers. It’s not competitive. We are always saying things to move each other forward and to celebrate each other. Plus, you get to stay connected with each other. I didn’t realize the joy and how much I learn from listening and watching other writers go through their process.

Traci’s lessons, readings, and weekly Zoom calls taught me accountability to her, to myself, to my story. Her gentle probing questions, the multiple workshops with other writers and a lovely healing professional. These were exactly what I needed this year, at this point in my journey. Traci’s calm approach and ongoing encouragement to slow down, listen to my body and the story it has to tell brought balance. It intersected well with the layers of lessons, how to’s of the writing journey, and weekly encouragement from others in the course. All things that helped me pause, sift through the many words and short sequences of story I wrote the past year or two, find ones I wanted to share and learn why or how they rose to the top, willing to be shared.

The Intensive not only gave me the tools I always wanted to bring my writing to the next level but many I never knew I needed, such as an understanding of my own process of writing and how to harness it to finish pieces I start. Traci has built an inspired pedagogy of online coursework – insightful instruction, carefully curated readings, powerful writing exercises, and opportunities to share works in progress and receive feedback – to take writers from conception to finished work, hurdling the obstacles we all face when working on a piece by finding our voices and developing strategies to keep producing and revising our work until it shines.
